Global Classroom: Agricultural Biotechnology

The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST) successfully concluded the second and final session of the Global Classroom 2025 series titled Agricultural Biotechnology, in collaboration with Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania.

Session 2, held on 29 May 2025, was divided into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Nuria Majaliwa from the Department of Food Science and Agro-Processing, Sokoine University of Agriculture, delivered an insightful lecture on animal cloning and genetically modified (GM) animals. She shared the current status, applications, and ethical considerations of animal biotechnology in the African context, sparking great interest among students.

The second part of the session was dedicated to student presentations, where participants from the BSB1112 Industrial Biotechnology course presented their group assignments, which contribute 20% toward their overall course assessment. These presentations reflected their understanding of key topics discussed throughout the Global Classroom, including agricultural biotechnology and global biotechnology practices.

The session was moderated by Dr. Nor Adila Mhd Omar, who also engaged with students and provided constructive feedback. The event successfully fostered international academic exchange, encouraging critical thinking, cultural understanding, and collaboration between students from Malaysia and Tanzania.
