Green Day 2026 Promotes STEM and Environmental Awareness Through Citizen Scientist Collaboration

16 May 2026 | Kuantan, Pahang

The Citizen Scientist Team from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FSTI), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully collaborated with Regent International School Kuantan Campus in organising Green Day 2026, a STEM and environmental awareness programme involving students, teachers, and parents.

The programme aimed to cultivate interest in STEM education while promoting environmental responsibility through interactive and hands-on learning experiences.

A total of 37 students participated in two highlighted activities organised by the Citizen Scientist Team, namely the “Green Mission Hunt” treasure hunt and the “Green Voices Gallery” poster showcase competition. Both activities encouraged students to apply creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while exploring sustainability and environmental themes.

In addition to the competitions, the team also conducted two hands-on STEM activities: “Future Water Guardians,” a water filtration activity, and “Small World Explorers,” a microscope observation activity. These activities provided participants with the opportunity to experience scientific exploration beyond the classroom in a fun and engaging environment.

The programme was further enlivened by science exhibitions prepared by students and teachers of Regent International School Kuantan Campus, showcasing various scientific concepts, innovations, and educational displays. Parents were also present throughout the programme, contributing to the lively and supportive atmosphere of the event.

Representatives from FSTI expressed appreciation to the school management, teachers, facilitators, students, and parents for their warm cooperation and active participation. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment between UMPSA and the school community in nurturing STEM interest and environmental awareness among younger generations.

The programme was led by ChM. Nurul Nadiah Hamidon.

The STEM activities and competitions were coordinated by several teams:

  • Microscope Activity: Dr. Hong Pui Khoon and Ts. Dr. Lee Chin Mei
  • Poster Showcase: Ts. Dr. Khairiah Mohd Mokhtar
  • Treasure Hunt: Ts. Dr. Nurul ‘Azyyati Sabri, Dr. Kamrul Fakir Kamarudin, Muhammad Alif Mustakim Zuhan, and Saiful Azahari Sallehuddin
