Global Classroom DRO2623 Bridges Malaysia and Indonesia in Environmental Emergency Response Practices
12 June 2026 | UMPSA Gambang
The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully conducted a Global Classroom session for students enrolled in DRO2623 Emergency Response Plan. The programme was organized by Miss Zarifah binti Shahri, Course Coordinator for DRO2623, as part of FIST’s continuous efforts to strengthen international academic collaboration and enrich students’ learning experiences.
The session featured Dr. Putri Ayuni Alayyannur from Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, who delivered a lecture entitled “Environmental Emergency Response and Pollution Control in Industrial Incidents.”
During the session, students were exposed to various industrial pollution incidents involving chemical spills, toxic gas releases, oil spills, and industrial fires. Dr. Putri shared practical insights into emergency response planning, incident command systems, spill containment, environmental monitoring, decontamination procedures, and environmental restoration strategies, supported by relevant case studies from Indonesia.
The programme enabled students to compare emergency response and environmental protection practices between Malaysia and Indonesia. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of integrating environmental protection into emergency response planning while recognizing the similarities in regulatory frameworks, multi-agency coordination, and community protection approaches adopted by both countries.
The Global Classroom also provided valuable international exposure and strengthened students’ professional communication skills through engagement in an English-medium learning environment. The interactive session encouraged students to broaden their perspectives on industrial emergency management and environmental sustainability in a global context.
This programme reflects FIST’s commitment to internationalization and its efforts to prepare future Occupational Safety and Health professionals with the knowledge, global perspectives, and competencies required to address emerging industrial and environmental challenges.
