KUANTAN | 13 July 2024 – The Faculty@School program concluded with an inspiring ceremony at the Dewan Al-Falah, Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Kuantan (INTEK) on Saturday, 13 July 2024. The event, held from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM, was graced by prominent guests, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aizi Nor Mazila binti Ramli, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and Pn. Hjh. The Dean delivered the keynote address on behalf of Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Ziad bin Sulaiman, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) UMPSA. The address highlighted the significance of the Faculty@School program in enhancing students' understanding and appreciation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Faculty@School program was conducted in two phases i.e., (i) phase 1 (July 6, 2024), which INTEK students and teachers visited FIST laboratories at UMPSA Gambang Campus, gaining hands-on experience in various scientific fields such as chemistry, biology, materials science, and occupational safety and health. (ii) Phase 2 (July 13, 2024) has been successfully held at INTEK, this phase featured career briefings for Form 5 students (delivered by lecturers and alumni) and an exciting Science Race activity organized by students’ association (SCITEXS) for Form 3 students.
The program aimed to (i) raise awareness about the importance of STEM education, (ii) introduce UMPSA's academic programs as viable post-secondary options for INTEK students, (iii) identify and crown two students as Faculty@School Ambassadors through a quiz and the Science Race.
In her speech, the Dean addressed the declining trend of students enrolling in science and mathematics subjects for SPM exams over the past six years, as reported by the Malaysian Science and Technology Information Centre (MASTIC). She emphasized the critical need for STEM education to develop future industry leaders and experts essential for the nation's economic and technological growth.
The Dean urged all attendees to become agents of change by promoting the importance of STEM education beyond the confines of INTEK and UMPSA. She encouraged parents, educators, and students to recognize the relevance of STEM in shaping future career paths and societal progress.
In her closing remarks, the Dean expressed hope for the continuation of the Faculty@School initiative to foster future collaborations. She thanked all contributors for their efforts in making the event a success and officially declared the closing of the Faculty@School 2024 program.
