OSH Students and Real Plant Experience with Petronas
On October 27th 2022, a total of 32 students of the Bachelor of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program participated in the "Real Plant Experience" Program at the Centre of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Excellence (CoHEx), Petronas Penapisan Terengganu Sdn Bhd (PP(T)SB), Kerteh Terengganu. The students were accompanied by the Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs (Dr. Mohd Fazli bin Farida Asrar) and OSH lecturers (Dr. Mohd Najib bin Yacob, Dr. Norwahida binti Yakub, Dr. Norhidayah binti Abdull, and Dr. Khairiah binti Mohd Mokhtar).This programme was well organised by PETRONAS as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme for the community. The goals of this programme were to provide students with practical industrial HSSE knowledge and exposure to plant prototypes known as "Real Plant Experience."
Students were exposed to "Scaffolding safety and working at height" via a talk delivered by En Mohd Fadly bin Ramli. He is a DOSH Registered Advanced Scaffolding Competent Person, Trainer and Inspector with more than 20 years of experience in health, safety, security, and the environment. Pertaining the current issue in OSH, Mr. Mohd Sofian bin Yusof, the Deputy Director of DOSH, Terengganu thoroughly discussed "2021 Incident Analysis and Intervention Plan". In an attempt to test the students’ understanding on the topics discussed, the students actively participated in the quiz time known as "Slido Time."
The students also visited the plant prototype, which covered laboratory safety, radiation safety, fire and emergency response, marine safety, tunnel of lessons learnt, industrial hygiene, environment, scaffolding, working at height, confined space, lifting operation, hot work, energy isolation, electrical safety, road safety, personal protective equipment, office safety, and home safety.
As an appreciation from FIST, Dr. Mohd Fazli bin Farida Asrar bestowed the token of appreciation to PP(T) SB during the closing ceremony
