Empowering Future Leaders: FIST Hosts Successful Program Career Bootcamp 2024
The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST) at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), in partnership with the Alumni Committee, recently hosted the Program Career Bootcamp FIST 2024, a highly impactful career development initiative held from October 23-24, 2024. Conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams, this dynamic event brought together around 200 final-year students from FIST’s diverse degree programs, including Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Biotechnology, Material Technology, and Industrial Chemistry.
The Program Career Bootcamp FIST 2024 was designed to enhance students’ understanding of the wide array of career opportunities available to them, while providing valuable early exposure to the professional world. More than just academic preparation, the bootcamp focused on equipping students with the practical skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market. The sessions were tailored to help participants hone their interpersonal and professional competencies, ensuring they are well-prepared to embark on successful career journeys.
Over the course of two days, students engaged in a variety of thought-provoking and skills-enhancing sessions:
Day 1 (October 23, 2024) began with an inspiring opening speech by Associate Professor Dr. Aizi Nor Mazila Binti Ramli, Dean of Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology. The day’s agenda featured a series of interactive workshops, starting with “Rock the Campus: Own Your Next Move” by Ardi Gunsuh from TalentCorp, which empowered students to take charge of their future careers. This was followed by a Resume Writing Workshop led by Jobstreet experts, offering practical insights on how to create a standout resume. Other highlights included LinkedIn Profile Building tips from Shaza Nazura (TalentCorp), and a session on Interview Tips and Tricks by Alfred Leo from GTI Media, providing students with essential tools to navigate the hiring process with confidence.
Day 2 (October 24, 2024) provided a deeper dive into specific career paths, with sessions led by the heads of each FIST program. These included insightful talks by Dr. Mohd Shahril bin Abu Hanifah (Occupational Safety and Health), Dr. Nazira Binti Mahmud (Industrial Biotechnology), Dr. Nazikussabah Binti Zaharudin (Industrial Chemistry), and Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hafiz bin Mazwir (Material Technology). The day also featured Career Profiling workshops conducted by Madam Azila, UMPSA's Psychology Officer, guiding students to align their strengths with potential career pathways. The event concluded with a heartfelt closing speech by Associate Professor Dr. Izwan Bin Ismail, Director of the UMPSA Career Centre, followed by a photography session to celebrate the success of the program.
The Program Career Bootcamp FIST 2024 was an invaluable experience for all participants, offering them the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to excel in their future careers. This initiative not only underscored FIST’s commitment to student success but also reinforced the importance of preparing graduates to thrive in the rapidly evolving job market.
