Global Classroom: Agricultural Biotechnology
The Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST) successfully held Session 1 of the Global Classroom 2025 series titled Agricultural Biotechnology, in partnership with Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania.
This two-part series brings together global experts and students to explore key areas in biotechnology. Session 1, conducted on 8 May 2025, focused on Plant Biotechnology, featuring Dr. Nuria Majaliwa from the Department of Food Science and Agro-Processing. Her session offered valuable insights into biotechnology innovations in African agriculture, highlighting sustainable strategies and food security efforts.
Students from the BSB1112 Industrial Biotechnology course at FIST actively participated in the session. They were given pre-assigned tasks and engaged in discussions, sharing reflections and questions on the topic, promoting a rich exchange of international perspectives.
The session was coordinated and moderated by Dr. Nor Adila Mhd Omar, who also contributed local context on Malaysia’s approach to plant-based biotechnology. The upcoming Session 2, scheduled for 29 May 2025, will shift focus to Animal Biotechnology, continuing this cross-border academic collaboration and student-centered learning experience.
