CO-LECTURE SESSION WITH INDUSTRY: LIFTING SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION SITES

The Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DRO) Program, under the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology, successfully conducted an industry co-lecture session titled "Lifting Safety in Construction Site" on 21 April 2025. The session, held from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Z-DK-10, was part of the subject DRO2533 – OSH in Construction, attended by 63 diploma students and led by lecturer Cik Zarifah Shahri.
The guest speaker, En. Muhammad Elyas Shah bin Marekan, a Safety and Health Officer and also Lifting Supervisor from Bridgex Sdn. Bhd. shared his extensive knowledge and field experience on lifting operations in the construction sector. His lecture addressed key areas such as legal requirements and industry standards for lifting activities, responsibilities of personnel involved in lifting operations, and proper handling of lifting equipment and machinery.
En. Muhammad Elyas also discussed common lifting-related hazards and practical strategies for risk reduction. He captivated the audience with real-life scenarios from his work on-site, offering students a realistic perspective on safety management in the field. In addition, he shared his personal journey as a Safety Site Supervisor and provided guidance on what students should expect during industrial training or employment in construction environments.
The session concluded with insights into career opportunities and development pathways in the construction and OSH industries, inspiring students to explore and prepare for diverse roles within the field.
