Co-Lecture Session with MPOB Experts

𝐂𝐨-𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐁 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬

The Faculty of Industrial Sciences & Technology (FIST), UMPSA, successfully hosted a co-lecture today featuring Ts. Dr. Nahrul Hayawin binti Zainal, Research Officer from MPOB, who delivered an insightful session on the role of oil palm biomass–based activated carbon in POME treatment and its relevance to the national palm oil industry.

More than 50 students from the Diploma and Bachelor (Industrial Biotechnology) programmes participated, gaining valuable exposure to real industrial bioprocess applications. The session began with welcoming remarks by event coordinator, Dr. Mohd Azwan Jenol, who highlighted the importance of industry-driven learning experiences.Ts. Dr. Nahrul shared an in-depth overview of MPOB’s research direction, the current landscape of the palm oil sector, and how activated carbon derived from oil palm biomass can enhance effluent treatment efficiency and support sustainable bioprocessing.

Students engaged actively during the interactive Q&A session, followed by a showcase of activated carbon products used in industrial treatment processes.This co-lecture served as an impactful platform to strengthen academia–industry collaboration, while exposing students to practical applications and emerging opportunities within Malaysia’s palm-based biotechnology sector
